I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) living in Philadelphia, PA. I came to Zentangle quite serendipitously. In 2012 I won a book from my local independent bookstore called Yoga For the Brain by Sandy Steen Bartholomew. I had never heard of Zentangle® and thought it was a book about yoga but when I went to pick it up and began reading it, I knew I was meant to have this book and learn this art form. I quickly sought out a teacher and two years later I was certified to teach.
Many people look at Zentangle® and comment that they doodle too. Zentangle® is not doodling. Zentangle® is a relaxing a mindful experience; doodling can be done mindlessly. Zentangle® uses structured patterns that can be taught; doodling is often instinctual. Zentangle® is a deliberate focus away from stress and a hectic life; doodling may be done without losing focus on everything around you. Zentangle® is done on beautiful materials while often doodles are thrown away.
Zentangle® has been described as a spiritual art practice which enhances mindfulness and self-awareness, decreases stress and calms the mind. It is creative, meditative and fun.
I hope you will join my classes and see how it can transform your inner world to one of peace and tranquility.
